Data Minds at Work

Event Summary

On December 9, 2024, the BSIS Data Analytics Track of the Institute of Computing and Digital Innovations (ICDI) held "Data Minds at Work: A Showcase of SME Analytics Systems". This academic exhibition was the culmination of intensive research and development aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical data science and the practical needs of the local business sector.

The event was conceptualized and organized by Dr. Hernan Pantolla and Ms. Mary Jane Legaspi, who sought to provide a platform for third-year Information Systems students to demonstrate their proficiency in business intelligence. The program centered on the demonstration of analytics systems developed within the frameworks of Fundamentals of Business Analytics and Financial Management.

Students from sections 301 and 302 presented a variety of systems that utilized data to solve real-world SME bottlenecks, such as financial forecasting, inventory optimization, and customer behavior analysis. Throughout the showcase, a panel of judges—including esteemed KLD faculty—meticulously evaluated each project based on technical innovation, data accuracy, and practical utility.
The success of the event was bolstered by the coordination of the IMACS Student Council and the Information System Society (ISSoc), ensuring a seamless flow of presentations and a professional environment for all participants. The atmosphere was one of rigorous intellectual exchange, emphasizing the institute's mantra that when data meets purpose, possibilities become limitless.
